Convention - SDCC2017 : Best News of the week

By Mulder, San Diego, 20 may 2017

We are under 2 months from SDCC now, and as we have in our previous write-ups (here and here and here) lets talk about what some new news.

The biggest news of the week has to be the fact the Chris Hardwick officially announced during a Facebook live video  that there would be no Nerdist Podcast during SDCC. A few days before he made that announcement Zachary Levi said there would not be a NerdHQ at SDCC. The combination of those 2 very popular events during SDCC leaves a big void in the offsite events for others to fill.

Now to talk about the new events since we last reported, shall we?

Sal Vulcano from Impractical Jokers will be performing at House of Blues (along with fellow comedians Roy Wood Jr. and Theo Von) on Thursday, July 20 at 6:30PM. Tickets available here.

Previously we had talked about the Syfy Presents Live from Comic-Con, but this week it was announced that Zachary Levi would be hosting it.

With the void caused by no Nerdist Podcasts at the Balboa Theater this year, they needed to fill their schedule and did they ever do so! MST3K will be there as part of a nation wide live tour with 2 stops during SDCC. Friday and Saturday you can see most of the cast of the new Netflix show (including Joel Hodgson, Jonah Ray, Felicia Day, Patton Oswalt, and Rebecca Hanson). The Friday night show will be riffing “Eegah”, and the Saturday riffing victim will be announced later. Friday tickets available here and Saturday’s show are here.

Normally the Nerdist Podcast does a 10pm show on Saturday at the Balboa Theater as well, so what is happening at the time now? Glad you asked. The Adventure Zone will be filling that time slot they announced. Tickets available here.

Also on Saturday night there will be a Underground Lightsaber Fighters - ComicCon 2017 Battle taking place at Balboa Park, full information here.

Now lets talk about non-offsite event news.

Comic-Con has been busy announcing special guests for this years event, and you can see the full list of all 55 guests here. While it’s not guaranteed, usually each special guest has a spotlight panel on them during the show.

Diamond Distributors announced their full list of SDCC exclusives. The list includes some special cover editions of comic books, statues/busts and more. You can read all about them here.

That’s it for this weeks news recap!
