Rencontre - Mortal Kombat a Blast from the Past

Par Mulder, TCL Chinese 6 theaters, 25 avril 2017

This week one of the most sought after movie events of the year transpired in Hollywood California at the TCL Chinese Theaters. Kory Davis (aka Twitter's moviedude18) brought together Director Paul W. S. Anderson, and Mortal Kombat stars Robin Shou (Liu Kang), Linden Ashby (Johnny Cage), and Chris Casamassa (Scorpion), along with other surprise guests for fans from across the world.

Kory Davis and his Nostalgia Screens having provided an opportunity for fans of cult classic entertainment to enjoy 80’s movies together with the actors that performed in the films which allows fans to enjoy a unique opportunity, that of watching their favorite movies along with the actors who portrayed their beloved fighters from Mortal Kombat.

On April 25, 2017 fans begin to line up outside the theater hours before the actors would arrive and before they could even enter the theater. As the fans begin to line up they were sharing their most prized collections of Mortal Kombat games, artwork, clothing and customers with each other and taking photographs with fans that had dressed up as Mortal Kombat Fighters.

First to arrive on the screen was Chris Casamassa (Scorpion) along with his wife and son. As they entered the theater there was a collective upswell of energy and excitement as Chris walked the line and greeted the fans in line. Next to arrive was Robin Shou (Liu Kang) and Linden Ashby (Johnny Cage) who were equally interactive with all of the fans, taking pictures with everyone that had waited so many years for this amazing opportunity. The screening of Mortal Kombat started late but no one was in the least bit concerned because all of the actors were making sure to spend time talking to each fan, signing all of the artwork and taking pictures. Before the film begin once every had filed into the pack and sold out theater Kory (moviedude18) introduced himself and the reason for this unique opportunity.

Kory Davis was born on March 20th, 1990 in Baton Rouge, LA. and at a very early age was diagnosed with ADHD and Asperger’s syndrome. His key focus in life has been movies, and as a child he became a film prodigy having grown up in the cinema booth at his local theater. As the years went by, his passion grew stronger and stronger. When he turned 18, he moved to Los Angeles, CA where he attended COlumbia College where he spent much of his time at film festivals - even camping out for hours to get in. As his college years progressed, his passion for acting shifted to writing and producing. Six months before he graduated he started an internship at a top talent agency as a script reader.

Against the rules (in the best of ways), he slightly incorporated his ideas into his work, which turned it into a paid gig. For years, Kory helped in finding scripts for A-list talent. As a fan of all kings of old and new, Kory frequented LA’s many revival cinemas that he decided to start an underground college series where he’d run his personal prints late at night. In 2014, Kory hosted his first ever event with Jason Biggs, Tara Reid, and John Cho at the 15th anniversary showing of American Pie. From there events came out of the woodwork quickly leading to three more movie events in less than a month. From cast and crew reunions to films Harold and Kumar, Halloween H2O, Cruel Intentions, and The Girl Next Door, Kory worked in partnership with the New Beverly and the Nuart theaters.

Which brings us to the reason for this event. Kory’s passion for all things film and the relationships he has built with the film community, fans and the actors shows all people especially children with Asperger's that like everyone else, if you work hard, stick to your passions anything is possible. His energy was vibrant during his introduction of the film, the actors and his friend Paul. He brought up to the stage Chris for a short Q&A that allowed fans to see how great Chris is and that like all of the cast of this film, Chris truly is Scorpion.

During the movie, what made this such a unique event is that we got to hear the the actors laugh and comment about scenes in Mortal Kombat. What no one who was not there would ever had know is that Robin (Liu Kang) felt that he needed a bit more clothing during the movie, often saying where is wardrobe, commenting upon the fact that he was showing off his muscled chest. The hear the actors laugh or chuckle to each other was a once in a lifetime event that each person in attendance will cherish all their lives and be the envy of any fan of the Mortal Kombat universe.

As the movie concluded everyone person cheered, and eagerly awaited the panel Q&A. I will not share any secrets from that part of the event, for that you will be able to watch the panel here.

Kory will continue to host amazing events so please follow him at moviedude18 on Twitter and of course Mulderville for the latest news on entertainment events across the world.
