Festivals - PAFF 2018 : We have covered the Black Panther carpet

By Mulder, Los Angeles, 14 february 2018

On Wednesday February 14th at the AMC Magic Johnson Crenshaw 15. Black Panther had a red carpet before it premiered and it didn’t disappoint. Many showed up in African garments and fabulous gowns. African drums were played as guests arrived and walked the carpet. The throne from the movie Black Panther was displayed on the red carpet for guests to sit in and feel royal. Black Panther was originally a comic book created by Marvel in the 1960’s. It was questioned how well the movie would do, due to the fact it was mostly black cast and based form a comic book. Black Panther roared as fans flocked to the theatre in record breaking numbers. Bringing in over $192M in three day s of it being shown. Over $387M globally in its debut.

The Black Panther made it debut in the Fantastic Four issue #52 in July 1966 during the Silver Age of Comic Books. The character was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and writer-artist Jack Kirby. Black Panther is the first superhero of African descent in mainstream American comic books. The Black Panther ran through thirteen issues of the Jungle Action series. The Black Panther is based on T’Challa. A king and the protector of the African nation Wakanda. The Black Panther possess abilities through ancient Wakandan ritual. Wakanda excels in science, physical training, hand to hand combat, and is rich in wealth and advanced technology. Lee caused controls with his Panther vs. the Klan. That ran as a 17-page story in Jungle Action #19–24 during Jan.–Nov. 1976. For that time in history were black still didn’t have equal rights, the subject of the was controversial and caused Marvel some trouble. February 2009, Black Panther was revamped and introduced a successor, T'Challa's sister Shuri. Black Panther has become a staple in the black community to show what could have happened if Africa was given the opportunity to be great and advance.

The Black Panther movie was directed by Ryan Coogler, written by Coogler and Joe Robert Cole. It features Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis. Black Panther premiered in Los Angeles on January 29, 2018, and was released in theaters in the United States on February 16, 2018. This movie went beyond expectations to become the fifth-highest domestic opening of all-time and also set the record for biggest debut by an African American director. One of biggest reasons why Black Panther is so popular is because it had a different story line. The story is based in Africa. A Africa were they have skilled warriors and technological advances beyond what most nations have. These advances that others don’t have, but want to advantage of, like the Vibranium. Vibranium is a alien metal that is used to make the city, weapons and is part of the Black Panthers suit. Not all of the nations like these technical advances. The Jabari Tribe choose not to follow Wakanda, but fend off the land. T'Challa takes over for the tribe when his father the king T’Chaka and Black Panther is killed. T'Challa struggles to establish his rein and king and Black Panther. As another ( Killmonger ) comes to claim the throne. Even with the Dora Milaje, the all-female special forces of Wakanda, who serve as T'Challa's bodyguards. They cannot interfere with the traditional challenge. It is then up to T’Challa step up and become the King of Wakanda before everything falls apart.

Black Panther blew up the box office. People all over the world showed up and showed out for this movie. People came out wearing African print shirts, dresses, hats and more. Many more came out and dressed up in cos- play to show their love of the movie. Many reason why this movie soared, is the same reasons why it was questioned to not do so well. A majority black cast and based on a comic book. Also the fact that the kings bodyguards were made up of all woman. This best warriors in Wakanda. This movie showed many how important it is to have accurate representation on screen. Especially in film were kids grow up and they want to see people like them on Tv and entertainment
