This past Sunday wrapped up the final tour of the DC Wonder Woman Run Series. They stopped in multiple cities and ended here in San Diego at the SDCCU stadium. The feeling of empowerment amongst the runners was strong, everyone was encouraging and helpful if anyone needed a helping hand, especially to those first time runners. Bright and early thousands of runners poured in with their running shoes on, showing off their best Wonder Woman gear. You could spot just about every Wonder Woman out there, from the original down to the newest cinematic adaptation. You even spotted a few fan favorites in the crowd including Batman, the Hulk, and the Flash. And who could forget everyone’s favorite inflated T-Rex.
Saturday runners were able to pick up their packets, which included a T-shirt of choice, custom Wonder Woman wrist cuffs, a commutative tote bag, and your bib number. Upgrades could be purchased on site which included super socks, a set of temporary tattoos, a gold Wonder Woman visor, and a car magnet. Also on site was a merchandise tent that had a multitude of items, from jewelry, to Funko pops, even down to gear such as backpacks, which of course I had to snag one for myself. The sun shone brightly when the 9am start time rolled around. Before the race former Miss California graced everyone with her voice and sang the National Anthem followed by a video from the original Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter, encouraging those to stay strong, work together, and make it to the end.
Once at the end of the race you were greeted with a beautiful finishers medal that really makes the whole race worth it. Following the event of the race they passed around the new DC ice cream series of our three super heroes Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman. As well as some Wonder Woman donuts but if you didn’t act fast you couldn’t get your hands on one, but there was water, granola bars, and bananas for those who missed out. Live entertainment rocked the stage giving everyone the chance to unwind and take some last minute photo ops before they announced the official top 3 race winners from both the 5k and 10k run. Though the majority of the runners were women there was a fair amount of men in attendance. All age groups were present including entire families which really added to the feeling of inclusiveness of this event. As a first time 5k runner I’m happy to call the DC Wonder Woman Run Series my first, I will definitely be back in attendance in 2019.
